The Art of Newborn Photography

A typical newborn portrait session involves photograping baby awake and curled sleeping, with mom and dad and siblings if requested, and then with a prop or two that is special to the family also by request.

Newborn Photography – While it is best to schedule the photo session while you are still pregnant, since newborns are top priority, please feel free to contact even if your baby has already arrived or is a few weeks old.  Ideally, babies are best photographed between 5 and 10 days old; however, Jodie has so many years of experience, she is able to photograph babies beautifully at any age.  By 3 weeks of age, babies may develop baby acne or cradle cap.  Do not worry!  She also has over 15 years of experience professionally retouching images and will remove these imperfections with a very natural retouching technique to not compromise the integrity of the photograph.  This is done at no charge to you.

Newborn Photography Fine Art Composites

A very important note on newborn composites.  Some of the images you will see on this website are babies in odd locations or in precarious positions.  These images did not happen as you see them.  These are considered photoshop composites.  In many cases, baby was held on a shoulder or positioned on a blanket, and later on, in post processing, was inserted into a completely different picture.  This is an art form that Jodie has perfected over the years – baby safety is top priority, and she has taught countless workshops inside and outside of the U.S. that included baby safety.

In Home Newborn Photography

Your newborn is photographed in the comfort of your own home because this is where your baby and family will be most comfortable and professional photographers can create professional quality work no matter where they are.  Over the years, we have found that babies simply do much better in the home environment.  Are you looking for a fresh 48 session?  Let us know and we will go over what we offer as an add on to your newborn photography session.

Older Babies

Is your baby a little older than that “ideal” two weeks?  No worries – Jodie photographs babies of all ages in a beautiful way.  Capture these moments at every age!

Some important milestons to remember are 3 months, 6 months, and 9 months.  However, who can resist that 8-week-old with wide eyes just starting to interact and smile?
