Portrait Session Details

Some notes on booking photography sessions at the Otte Studio.

PREGNANCY PHOTOGRAPHY (click to view gallery)

Maryland photographer, Jodie Otte, works with soft lighting techniques when photographing expectant mothers that show off the beautiful pregnant form.   When a maternity and newborn session is scheduled, it is recommended that expecting mom be between 6 and 8 months pregnant.   It is encouraged to book in advance.  While a client may not know exactly how big her pregnant belly will be in the later months,  it is okay to book a tentative date and time and change it as that time approaches.  Please feel free to bring any and all clothing ideas that you may have.  Jodie provides a selection of maternity wraps.  Some items that her clients tend to bring are:  tank tops, tube tops, form fitting shirts, form fitting dresses, jeans (preferably without the maternity pouch - regular jeans left open works the best), long skirts, yoga pants, sweaters/tops to be left open such as cardigan style, lingerie, miscellaneous material such as long scarves.  Your maternity session will take approximately one hour.

NEWBORN AND BABY PHOTOGRAPHY (click to view gallery)

Babies are best photographed in the first two weeks of life.  If you are expecting, please contact the Baltimore studio and inform Jodie of your due date so that she may make note in her schedule.  Once your baby is born, please call immediately, even from the hospital, so that we may schedule a time quickly to capture that freshly born, curled look of your newborn.  Expect your newborn session to last around 2 hours - the session is completely dictated by your baby.  Our goal is to get a little awake time, and a little sleep time. Your baby will spend a great deal nursing - if you are bottle feeding, please remember to bring extra formula.  Newborns are best photographed without clothing, as clothing on babies this tiny tend to look awkward.

Are you in Maryland or the surrounding areas and missed the newborn time?  That's okay.  Jodie captures beautiful images of your baby at any age.  Six months (or when sitting up) and nine months (when child can stand with support) are recommended times to have portraits taken.   These are the times when huge smiles and laughs abound!  Baby portrait sessions with babies ages 3 months and up will tend to take about an hour.

CHILD PHOTOGRAPHY (click to view gallery)

A typical photography session at this Baltimore Maryland photography studio for children is relaxed and fun.  Children are allowed to be themselves.  Photographs of children are taken inside the studio and outdoors on the studio property for a more casual, candid result, using the location to accent your child with textures and colors.  Keep in mind when choosing clothing for your child to avoid stripes and name brand lettering - unless you are after a trendy look and in that case, it will be fine.  If you are looking for a classic timeless image, think about textures that will accent your child, not take the attention away.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PORTRAITS (click to view gallery)

Jodie photographs high school seniors mainly in an outdoor setting at the Baltimore studio.  She does not photograph traditional cap and gown or drape setups.  Her approach to high school seniors is relaxed and fun.  Jodie does touch up skin imperfections with a light technique to keep the skin looking natural and not plastic.

EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHY (click to view gallery)

Professional photographer, Jodie Otte, will be offering equine photography sessions beginning in Spring of 2008.  These sessions consisting of child and horse or teen and horse will take place at sunset on location around Baltimore, Harford, and Carroll Counties.  You will find some examples on the photography blog under the category of equine photography; however, we will be dedicating a portion of the website exclusively for the beautiful relationships between horse and owner.

ENGAGEMENT PORTRAITS

Jodie does not photograph weddings; however, she does engagement portraits.  She prefers to photograph the happy couple in an environment that is more casual where the result is images that convey a relationship that are not stiff and posed.
